Bio
Xian Niles is the Owner/ Operator of Niles’ Fencing Academy. Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, it is a club that caters to and focuses on high-performance Italian historical fencing. Founder and former leader of SPADA, the only recreational Bolognese fencing study group in Maritime Canada. Former facilitator of the Dalhousie Historical European Martial Art Society. A former international Epee fencer, Xian’s fencing career spans over 19 years. He has represented his home country of Barbados as a two-time Pan-American Championship athlete; and a Pan-American Cup competitor. He has also achieved multiple time medal recognition while fencing competitively in Nova Scotia.

Xian’s love affair with HEMA started in 2013 when he first encountered the discipline through performing stage combat. He is a certified Longsword and Rapier instructor through Academie Duello based in British Columbia. He is also a Level 2 Instructor with the Cateran Society. On or off the piste, Xian has had a lifelong love for martial arts. Starting with Shotokan Karate at a very young age, graduating to MMA, Kickboxing, Judo, No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai.

Xian Niles est le propriétaire et l'exploitant de l'Académie d'escrime de Niles. Situé à Halifax, en Nouvelle-Écosse, au Canada, il s'agit d'un club qui se consacre à l'escrime historique italienne de haute performance. Fondateur et ancien dirigeant de SPADA, le seul groupe d'étude de l'escrime bolognaise récréative dans les Maritimes. Ancien animateur de la Dalhousie Historical European Martial Art Society. Ancien escrimeur international à l'épée, la+ carrière d'escrimeur de Xian s'étend sur plus de 19 ans. Il a représenté son pays d'origine, la Barbade, en tant qu'athlète ayant participé à deux reprises au championnat panaméricain et à la Coupe panaméricaine. Il a également remporté plusieurs médailles lors de compétitions en Nouvelle-Écosse.

L'histoire d'amour de Xian avec HEMA a commencé en 2013, lorsqu'il a découvert la discipline en pratiquant le combat sur scène. Il est instructeur certifié d'épée longue et de rapière auprès de l'Academie Duello, basée en Colombie-Britannique. Il est également instructeur de niveau 2 auprès de la Cateran Society. Sur la piste ou en dehors, Xian a toujours été passionné par les arts martiaux. Il a commencé par le karaté Shotokan à un très jeune âge, avant de passer au MMA, au kickboxing, au judo, au jiu jitsu brésilien No-Gi et au muay thaï.
