Bio
Jay Maas has been a HEMA instructor since 2011. He joined his first club studying rapier in 2010 at Valor HEMA. Jay also joined the Cateran Society and worked through the ranks to achieve the rank of Cateran. Through that program, he has helped to produce 7 instructors. Jay has travelled throughout the UK visiting other broadsword clubs. As a martial artist, he has a solid background in boxing where he became a certified beginner striking coach at his university kickboxing program. He has worked on other martial arts as well such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The head instructor of Broadsword Academy Manitoba, Jay is an active competitor and current champ of broadsword and smallsword at the Glengarry Highland Games. He currently organizes events. Jay is also a dedicated sport fencer, training in all 3 modern weapons and studying coaching under coach Steve Symons, former president of the Canadian Fencing Federation of Phoenix Fencing club in Winnipeg. Jay is passionate about growing the sport and has helped a number of clubs get started across Canada. Aside from Broadsword, he also is active in most other Hema weapons.

Jay Maas est instructeur HEMA depuis 2011. Il a rejoint son premier club pour étudier la rapière en 2010 à Valor HEMA. En tant qu'artiste martial, il possède une solide expérience de la boxe et est devenu entraîneur de frappe débutant certifié dans le cadre du programme de kickboxing de son université. Il a également travaillé sur d'autres arts martiaux tels que le jiu-jitsu brésilien.
Instructeur en chef de la Broadsword Academy Manitoba, Jay est un compétiteur actif et le champion actuel d'épée large et d'épée courte aux Glengarry Highland Games. Il organise actuellement des événements. Jay est également un escrimeur sportif dévoué, qui s'entraîne aux trois armes modernes et étudie l'entraînement avec l'entraîneur Steve Symons, ancien président de la Fédération canadienne d'escrime du club d'escrime Phoenix à Winnipeg.
